For Visit in Mostar

The Old Bridge is protected by UNESCO and is definitely the most iconic sight in Mostar. It is located in the heart of the city, which is also under UNESCO protection. The original bridge was built by the Ottomans in 1566 but was destroyed during the war in 1993. The bridge was reconstructed in 2004, using mostly original materials. It spans the Neretva River and even in its restored form, it represents Islamic architecture with its two fortified towers, Halebija and Tara.

The Muslibegović House was built about 300 years ago and is considered one of the most beautiful houses from the Ottoman period in the Balkans. The house differs from previous constructions of that time because it contains a garden in the center. It is divided into a part for men and a part for women. Here you can enjoy preserved architecture, objects, and documents that provide insight into life under Ottoman rule.

The Crooked Bridge is located next to the Old Bridge. Built in 1558, it resembles the Old Bridge. The original stone from which it was built was destroyed in the 2001 flood, but it was soon restored on the initiative of UNESCO.

The Old Bridge Museum is located next to the bridge, on the eastern side. It includes exhibitions on the history of the bridge, including photographs from the war period. The museum also features entrance to underground excavations that you can visit for around 5KM.

The Kajtaz House was once a harem for a Turkish judge and was built in the late 16th century. The original structure and items such as Ottoman carpets and books in Arabic are very well preserved. The house belongs to the descendants of the original family and is under the protection of UNESCO.

The Partisan Memorial Cemetery is located on Bijeli Brijeg and is an excellent example of brutalist architecture. It was built in 1965 in honor of Yugoslav partisans from Mostar who were killed during World War II. Like many other sights in Mostar, the cemetery was damaged during the 1990s war but was restored in 2005.

The Hamam Museum is located in the only preserved hamam in Mostar. The building dates back to the late 16th and early 17th centuries and was built in the classic Ottoman style. Here you can learn more about Ottoman customs and culture.

The Cathedral of Mary, Mother of the Church, is one of the four Catholic cathedrals in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Located about 1.5 km west of the Old Bridge, it was built in a simple but interesting postmodern style.

The Franciscan Church of St. Peter and Paul was originally built in 1866 but was destroyed during the war in 1992. The new church was built on the existing foundations and is located 400 meters west of the Bridge. There you will find a library containing over 50,000 records and a rich collection of paintings by Italian masters from the 16th and 17th centuries.

The Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque was built in 1619 and is located in the oldest part of Mostar, next to the Neretva River. This stunning example of Ottoman architecture was also destroyed during the war but was not completely destroyed and was eventually restored. The mosque houses an outstanding collection of Quranic scriptures and contains a carpet donated by the Austrian monarch Franz Joseph I.
